Project 20: Car Battery Function Test.

Objective:

To test 12V car battery using a multimeter, to understand basic functionality.

Test Equipment:

1. TPI 153 Multimeter

2. Misc. brushes, wrenches, etc.

Testing Procedure:

1. Disconnect battery and clean terminals.

2. Measure voltage with battery with car turned off. Battery at full capacity will read above 12.6 V.

3. Turn car on and measure voltage. Voltage should increase to above 14 V because alternator is charging.

4. Shut car off and turn headlights on for 2 minutes. Measure voltage with battery with car turned off. Battery should not should much from initial measurement about 0.2 V.

5. Measure voltage while turning car on, the voltage should not drop below 10 V.

6. This concludes test.
