Operation:

2017-04-28: I purchased a American Weigh Scales (AWS) digital kitchen scale, model Vanilla 5K, from Target Online. The cost was $14.99, and transaction had a shipping charge of $5.57, so the total cost was $20.56. The scale provided expected performance until one day in 2018, January when the scale suddenly read low while weighing a loaf of bread. I was using the scale to weigh all purchased items to ensure net weight was at specified level. I then made numerous attempts to get the scale to reset but device would not recalibrate. There was no company phone number listed in the product manual. I attempted to take back the item to a local Target retailer without success but the cashier was able to provide the phone number for AWS.

2018-02-02: I called AWS and was put through to J. Mitchell. He listened to the issue and responded with, something like "I must be the only one in America that had scale issues" and proceeded to say the scale is built to last and it must be a calibration issue. I requested that the calibration instructions be provided because there were not presented in the user manual. However, these digital scales do not have a recalibration feature. J. Mitchell then said he would provide a new model if I returned the old unit. The warranty issue was reported as ***WILL NOT CALIBRATE***

2018-02-24: I sent the old unit by USPS. The cost of shipping was $7.45. It was a tracked package but I did not check when it was delivered. I recall the USPS clerk informing that the package would arrive by the 26th. I suppose this was the case because I recieved a new unit on Friday, March 2nd. Now the test will be to see how well this new unit holds up over time.

2018-08-24: The replacement worked fine until the zero function was used. The screen did something funny and calibration went out. I could not get the unit to reset after numerous attempts. I am not sending unit back for warranty, I am moving onto other brands. I will not be using AWS in the future, to Purchased this unit from Costco for $15.99, in January 2018. Appears to be a much higher quality product for equivalent price.
