Objective:

I purchased a Bonavita performance coffee brewer. The product was purchased from Amazon on 2019-11-08 for $98.59. This coffee brewer is certified by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA).

I purchased a Cuisinart Grinder Burr Mill. The product was purchased from Amazon on 2019-11-08 for $36.99.

I purchased a replacement Bonavita coffee brewer BV1901TS. Looks nearly identical but the basket slides into the brewer lid. The product was purchased from Amazon on 2025-06-21 for $151.99. It appears a legal dispute has been resolved between US distributer and Chinese manufacturer.

Bonavita brand appears to have launched late 2011. Brian Gross was hired by Chinese manufacturer Smartco to develp the Bonavita brand. In 2012, Smartco entered into an agreement with a US distribution company called Espresso Supply.However, disagreements emerged when Brian Gross started a competing brand called Brewista. This legal challenges possibly starting as far back as 2015 took many years to clear, and resulted in the Bonavita brand stagnating. Sometime after 2022 the Bonavita brand was relaunched.

Operation information:

2022-03-21 Noticed cracks in the water tank. It appears the Bonavita line of products is now no longer in business.

2025-06-21 Coffee machine failed, a buzzing noise was heard and smoke came out of the brewer. It appears the Bonavita line of products is back in business.
