Project 10: Replace 2 Hot Water Tanks.

Objective:

Two hot water tanks have been in operation since 2004 required replacing. Tha hot water heaters were plumbed in series, and the primary heater is the one the failed. However, the secondary tank was showing signs of wear. The information gathered during the quoting phase is:

JD Plumbing Services 7228479 2019-09-11 Navien tankless npe 240 a : Remove two 40 gal water heaters from the attic, remove both pans and in install one pan, once that is completed we will then build a frame for the tankless and get out electrician out to install a plug, once that is completed we will then re work the water lines and plumb it in to the tankless water heater heater, we will also get our roofers out to change the flashing on the roof while we install the new venting. We will then find your nearest vent and install a ptrap on it so the condensation from the tankless can expel any water. This job takes all day to complete. You will receive a one year warranty on labor as well as a five year warranty on parts for the unit and a 15 year warranty on the burner assembly. This will not be instant hot water this will be continuous hot water. $5,458

Once everything is hooked up we turn the water back on and check for any leaks and test pressure. Water heaters usually take about 40 minutes to completely heat up. We use tarps and plastic if need for your carpet and for your walls. So we don’t create a mess. These water heaters come with a 6 year warranty and a one year labor warranty. If you do get the membership then we will come out every year and flush the water heaters out, as well as do a free plumbing inspection every year. With the the membership you get upwards of 10%
off any item or repair.

We need to solder on new adapters and install new flex lines for the water heater and gas flex lines for the water heater that we supply. There will be no warranty threw our company for the water heater except for the labor warranty which is one year. We test for leaks and make sure everything is working properly. $2,178

After reviewing the cost of quotes we followed up with JD Precision for installation of two 40 gal short water heaters, plumbed in series using existing piping. I do not have a preference between series or parallel. Photos comparing the old and new equipment:

From the pictures the end result was similar to the previous.
